We made an in-depth video to share our redesign process (scroll down), but for those who don&#8217;t have 18 minutes to spare, read on.<\/p>\n<p>Memorable brands create enduring connections with the people who interact with them. They do this by clearly articulating what they stand for. These days customers want to know not just what products and services a business can provide, but the mission that drives the company at its core, the promise it&#8217;s making to its users.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"the-intercom-brand-promise\">The Intercom brand promise<\/h2>\n<p>At Intercom, all of our work is anchored by this promise: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.intercom.com\/blog\/messenger\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">interacting with users through Intercom<\/a> will help you build better customer relationships \u2013 and drive faster growth for your business as a result.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"pullquote-style-one\"><p>&#8220;This identity is more than a design makeover \u2013 we believe it is a truer representation of who we are as a brand&#8221;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Over a year ago, we started thinking about how we could express this brand promise in a fresh way and today, we\u2019re taking the first step by rolling out our new visual identity on the website. This identity is more than a design makeover \u2013 we believe it is a truer representation of who we are as a brand.<\/p>\n<p>So what did we change \u2013 and honestly why are we writing about it? We&#8217;re certainly not the first company to redesign a website. But we think the design decisions we made says a lot about who we are as a company.<\/p>\n<p>Before we get going \u2013 a big shoutout to our design agency, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instrument.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Instrument<\/a>, who partnered with us on this whole effort and enabled our team to support ongoing work.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><em>(Our Inside Intercom blog got a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.intercom.com\/blog\/we-killed-the-blog-we-hope-you-like-it\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">makeover<\/a> last year; the latest overhaul applies to the main pages on Intercom.com.) <\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<h2 id=\"always-on-the-move\">Always on the move<\/h2>\n<p>On practically every page, you&#8217;ll now see new hero animations that aim to turn each and every website visit into an engaging experience.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.intercom.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/website-animation-rev.gif\" alt=\"Website animations\" \/><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: small;\"><em>Illustrations by <a href=\"https:\/\/dribbble.com\/olenka-malarecka\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Olenka Malarecka<\/a> with animation by <a href=\"https:\/\/yeahhaus.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Yeah Haus<\/a><br \/>\n<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Through these animations, every single person who visits our site should walk away with a better sense of our brand&#8217;s core attributes: credible, playful, advanced yet simple, and authentic. And for the right folks looking for something like the Intercom platform, a better understanding of who we are as a brand will translate to longer-term customer relationships.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"opinionated-colors\">Opinionated colors<\/h2>\n<p>The other thing you\u2019ll notice on the website is the bold new brand color: teal (or as we like to refer to it, &#8220;Electric Mint&#8221;). The teal and our new secondary colors make up an energizing, confident color palette that is designed to make a statement and evoke an opinion.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.intercom.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/intercom-brand-color-palette.jpg\" alt=\"Our new website color palette\" \/><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: small;\"><em>Our new website color palette<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Some might say that our new colors are polarizing \u2013 but we believe it\u2019s better to <em>feel<\/em> something about a brand than nothing at all.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"people-first\">People first<\/h2>\n<p>Photography is traditionally a hard medium to use on a business site \u2013 the people you feature might not stick with their company long-term, a photo shoot requires significant time investment from your customers and team.<\/p>\n<p>But it\u2019s really the perfect format for celebrating our customers, the actual people who use the product. So that\u2019s why we&#8217;re putting portraits of our customers front and center on the new site.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.intercom.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/intercom-brand-photography-1.jpg\" alt=\"Our new website photography\" \/><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: small;\"><em>Customer photography by <a href=\"https:\/\/justinkaneps.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Justin Kaneps<\/a>, art direction by <a href=\"https:\/\/dribbble.com\/thecarpenter\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Kelly Carpenter<\/a>, production by Mika Kunisaki and <a href=\"https:\/\/dribbble.com\/jasonyim\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Jason Yim<\/a><\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p>We went for a natural, yet energetic portrait style with backgrounds that lean into our secondary color palette. With this style, the portraits provide both credibility <em>and<\/em> variety, excitement, and joy. A great side benefit of all this photography work is that we got the chance to interact with our customers in a fun new way.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"getting-to-the-point\">Getting to the point<\/h2>\n<p>As we look to introduce more people to the power of Intercom, we want the message about what we do and how we help to be undeniably clear.<\/p>\n<p>So fresh headlines now stand on many of our pages, composed in a new typeface, Graphik, that is structured yet quirky in its nature, letting our message shine through in a straightforward, warm voice.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.intercom.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/intercom-brand-typography-1.jpg\" alt=\"Our new website typography\" \/><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: small;\"><em>Examples of refreshed headlines and typography. Copywriting led by <a href=\"https:\/\/cspratrun.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Chelsea Spratling<\/a>. Numerals by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.verycoolstudio.com\/about\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Kyle Benson<\/a>.<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Fun fact: the way stats are styled on the website is inspired by small business bodega signage. They were hand-drawn in-house to give warmth to numbers that can otherwise seem cold and hard. All of our stats point to Intercom&#8217;s business impact by way of relationships with real customers, so we wanted those numbers to have a human touch.<\/p>\n<p>These are a few of the myriad changes that we&#8217;re rolling out today.
