Upgrade instructions
To upgrade your installation to the latest version of Stripe, you will be required to use the Intercom Stripe App. The current app runs on an extension which Stripe has deprecated, which means that upgrading the Intercom Stripe App will install the newest version which runs on Stripe’s App Framework.

The Intercom Stripe App must be upgraded by December 2025. After this date, the previous version of the app will no longer work.
If you are currently using the connect extension, you will receive an email informing you that your Stripe integration is unhealthy. You will need to navigate to the Settings tab of the Stripe integration in the Intercom App Store, and click Upgrade in the banner. 👇
This will open a migration modal.
Once you click to upgrade, all Stripe accounts that are connected to Intercom via the deprecated connect extension will be disconnected and data syncing will be paused. You will then be redirected to Stripe to authenticate and install the newest version of the app.
Any additional Stripe accounts that were connected will need to manually be reconnected once the upgrade process is complete. Instructions for how to do this can be found here.
Note: If you have Stripe Data Connectors set up, it will have already authenticated with the newest version of the Intercom Stripe app. You will not be required to authenticate again, and the Stripe account that was connected for Stripe Data Connectors will be used as the primary account.
To start with a fresh installation, simply uninstall the integration and reinstall it.
Creating Intercom users with email only disabled by default
In this version, there is a new option to enable the creation of Intercom users from existing Stripe customers using only their email address. This option is disabled by default.
When disabled, users will be created in Intercom only when both an email address and a user ID (set in the Stripe customer's metadata field) are available.
In this new section, you can specify the name of the Stripe metadata field that contains the value to be used as the user ID when creating a user in Intercom.
Note: This value is only used during user creation and any later changes to this metadata field in Stripe will not be reflected on the user in Intercom.
You can change this behavior and allow creating users with email only by enabling the Allow user creation with email only option.
The new version of Stripe
Note: Only one Intercom workspace can be connected to any Stripe account. The Intercom Stripe App will only function in the most recent Intercom workspace to be connected to a given Stripe account.
The functionality of the new version of the Intercom Stripe App is very similar to the old version. The main difference is the uninstall process, as you now have to do so through the Stripe dashboard rather than through Intercom.
When installed, the Intercom Stripe App can be found in the Stripe Dashboard settings page. Clicking that will show the “Uninstall” button.
Be sure to select the correct Stripe Account in the top left corner of the Stripe Dashboard before clicking Uninstall.
Uninstalling will disconnect the integration with Intercom. It may take a few minutes for the update to be visible in the Intercom App Store.
