Can you send Surveys using Intercom?

Yes, Intercom Surveys are a great way of engaging customers and seamlessly capturing customer insights. The responses collected can be used to power actions and workflows to create a more personalized customer experience and drive business growth.

If you create a shareable link for your survey, you can also send your customers surveys using apps in messages, or Workflows.

Using other surveying apps with Intercom

You can use survey apps including Typeform, Survicate, AskNicely, InMoment (formerly Wootric), Coda and more. Check out our app store for the full list of survey apps.

Is it possible to get all results from multiple Surveys into one report?

It's currently not possible to combine stats from different surveys into a single report. However, you can export your surveys data and combine the exported files into a single one as a workaround.

Why isn't an attribute appearing for me to save an answer to?

We only allow answers to be stored to expected responses for this question type. For example: only attributes with a number data type are allowed for an NPS question type. For multiple choice questions, only text data types can be stored.

Can we ingest third party Survey data?

No, we cannot ingest third party survey data at this time.

Is there a limit to the amount of questions that can be added to a Survey?

There can be 15 questions in total. There can be 3 different sections with 5 questions per section.

Is it possible to trigger a NPS Survey from an automation workflow?

Yes, if you use the webhook to trigger a Series after a conversation closes, you can add a Survey as the next step. However, you are not able to trigger a NPS survey as it will start a new conversation.

Can Survey reporting data be accessed through the API?

No, reporting data cannot be accessed through the API at this time.

When are answers stored to an attribute?

Answers are saved to an attribute when the Survey is submitted; answered are not saved after each step. If a user dismisses a Survey half-way through, no answers will be saved.

Can Surveys be integrated into an outbound email?

Yes, you can embed the first question of your survey into an email. To embed your survey in an email, it cannot have an introduction step, and the first question must be a rating scale (NPS, Numeric rating, Star rating, Emoji rating) or a single select multiple choice question). Learn more here.

Can Surveys be taken multiple times?

Yes. Surveys triggered from a shareable URL can be taken multiple times by the same user. Additionally, when you are using transactional messaging, a user can match for a Survey multiple times.

Will a Fixed Survey's shareable URL still work after it's sent?

Fixed messages and surveys ("Send once") are automatically paused after 30 days, so the shareable URL will remain active for 30 days. If you want to use the Survey URL permanently, you will need to set it live as an automatic ("Send every time") survey instead. You can still turn off "Trigger your survey automatically" so it doesn't automatically send.

Are Surveys dismissible?

When using short-format surveys, the survey will persist across pages until completed or dismissed. Long-format surveys must be dismissed to move pages. Once a survey has been dismissed, it will not reappear unless it has reoccurring sending in place.

Does a user need to engage with a Survey for it to be included in the survey sent stats?

No, only when the user sees the survey. For an automatically sent survey, the sending will count as a survey sent (i.e. when it pops up on their page). For a survey sent via sharing link (ie. via email), when the user clicks on the link and views the survey that will count as a survey sent.

How can I continue to send a Survey until it's completed?

We don't have a built-in solution to keep sending a Survey until completed, but there are a couple of workarounds:

1️⃣ You can add a question step at the end that stores the response in an attribute, one that is only ever filled out by this Survey:

Then, target the audience of the survey to "[attribute] is unknown" so it will only keep sending as long as that attribute has not yet been filled out.

2️⃣ Add the Survey to a Series, and use the "Has completed survey" rule block to add a Tag to the user once they complete the Survey. Then, use the tag in an Exit rule so they exit the Series and don't re-enter (as long as they remain tagged).
