The people list

When you log into Intercom, you'll see this. This is your people list. It shows you all your users and and it's sorted by how recently they were last seen in your product. 

Note: If you want to see a list of your leads, just click on the ‘All Leads’ tab at the top of your people list. 

Let's look more closely at the key features of the people list. 

1. Filters 

On the left of the people list is your filters. You can use these to drill down into your user base to answer specific questions. A default Intercom install will give you lots of useful data to filter on. We call this data standard user attributes. 

But you can also send Intercom any data you like to help you better answer questions of your user base. There are two types of data that you can send us that’s specific to your user base: custom user attributes and user events. They'll appear here in your filter bar alongside your standard user attributes.

2. Segments 

At the top of your people list you’ll see your segments. There are three default segments available here when you first install Intercom: 

  • New (anyone who signed up in the last day).

  • Active (anyone who has logged in at least once in the last month). 

  • Slipping away (anyone who has logged in in the last 60 days, but not in the last 30 days). 

You can of course create whatever segments you like, based on any combination of criteria you like, and they'll display here at the top of your people list.

3. Bulk actions

Along the top of the people list are your bulk actions. Here (depending on what Intercom product you have) you can message, tag, delete, or export any selected list of users.

4. Data columns

To the right of your people list you'll see your data columns. These show the value that each user has on each data point. You can customize what columns you want to show by selecting the displayed user attributes view on the right side above your data columns. 

In the top left corner of your screen you can search your people list by user name, email address or by tag. (It's easy to tag users - see point 3). 

6. Auto messages and manual messages

‘Depending on what Intercom product you own, you can set up an auto message or manual message really easily and have it send based on the conditions you set in the filter bar (see point 1). Just click on the Engage icon on the left-hand side of your screen, select ‘User Auto Messages’ or ‘Manual Messages’ and create your message from there.

The company list

When you install Intercom, we treat all of your users as individuals. But if you enable the companies feature, we'll group all of the users from the same company together. 

Click on the companies tab at the top of your screen to see your company list. 

Just like with the user list, you can easily filter, message, tag them and export companies. Here's how to enable the companies feature.

The accounts list

If you use Intercom for account-based marketing you’ll also see the Accounts list. This is where you can track your targeted accounts from your Salesforce integration in real time.  

Note: If these accounts have not yet have visited your site, they will not appear in the companies list. 

Note: Accounts is only available on certain Intercom plans. You'll also need Clearbit Reveal to send personalized messages to target accounts.

This list shows:

  • The name of the account.

  • Their email domain.

  • Which of your teammates is the owner of the account.

  • When the account was last seen on your site.

  • The source of the account, ie Salesforce.
