In-store, someone helps you choose. Online, you’re left on your own. Fin changes that.
Most ecommerce experiences break down at the moment of decision. Shoppers are browsing your catalog, checking sizing, and looking for more detail. They don’t get answers. They can’t decide. They abandon their cart.
Fin for Ecommerce completely redefines that experience. Fin understands what shoppers are looking for, narrows thousands of products to the right one, and guides them to checkout. Merchants are already seeing the impact, converting more carts and improving AOV.
Use this article to understand what Fin for Ecommerce does, how it connects to your store, and whether it's the right setup for you.
Fin for Ecommerce performs this combined shopping and support role through four core capabilities:
Fin connects to your store: Connect your Shopify store for a native integration that syncs your catalog, order data, and APIs in minutes — or connect any other ecommerce platform via a catalog connector. No manual training or complex setup.
Fin helps shoppers find the right product: It asks the right questions, narrows options from thousands of products, and compares them based on what the shopper actually needs. It’s like a great store assistant, at scale.
Fin helps increase order value: It recommends relevant products and upsells based on the conversation, keeps carts easy to update, and guides shoppers into checkout when they're ready.
Fin handles support without losing the sale: Returns, refunds, and order changes can all be resolved in the same conversation. When the issue's handled, Fin guides the shopper back to browsing.
Note: Fin for Ecommerce natively integrates with Shopify. It can also be deployed on other platforms (WooCommerce, Magento, BigCommerce, Salesforce Commerce Cloud, and custom-built stores) via a catalog connector. See the Get started section below for setup guides.
How Fin for Ecommerce works
Fin for Ecommerce combines Fin's best-performing support capabilities with shopping assistance in a single experience:
Shopping assistance for product discovery, recommendations, and purchase support.
Support assistance for pre-order, order and post-purchase questions.
Fin detects what a customer needs and seamlessly switches between shopping assistance and support assistance within the same conversation.
When your store is connected, you can:
Sync your product catalogue and storefront content.
Keep products, variants, pricing, and availability up to date.
Connect APIs for common ecommerce actions.
Draft Procedures for common post-purchase requests.
With Shopify, this happens automatically. On other platforms, your developers publish the catalog to Intercom on a schedule. Either way, Fin starts selling and supporting customers with minimal manual setup.
What Fin for Ecommerce uses from your catalog:
Fin for Ecommerce understands your product catalog and store content, including:
Products and variants
Pricing
Availability and stock changes
Product page content.
Store-specific catalogue information
This allows Fin to support both broad catalogue discovery and focused product exploration.
Can Fin sell Shopify subscriptions?
Yes, many Shopify stores sell products cheaper on a subscription — Shopify calls these "selling plans" (for example, "Deliver every month" or "Subscribe and save 15%"), usually set up with an app like Recharge, Shopify Subscriptions, or Loop. Fin understands these subscription options and can help shoppers buy them.
Fin quotes the price for each subscription option, like "every 2 weeks, save 15%"
Product cards show a "From" price when a subscription is cheaper
Fin adds the plan the shopper picks straight to their cart
Subscription-only products are always added with a plan
Note: This is Shopify-only — other ecommerce platforms aren't supported. The merchant needs to re-approve the Intercom app in Shopify once to grant Fin access to subscription data.
Does Fin show local prices for Shopify Markets?
Fin shows shoppers local prices for Shopify stores that use Shopify Markets (Shopify's tool for selling in multiple countries and currencies), so a shopper outside your home market sees the price and currency they'd see on your storefront, instead of always seeing your store's default currency.
Product prices, cards, and tables show the shopper's local price
Price questions, like "boards under £500," match against local prices
Subscription prices are shown in the shopper's local currency too
When Fin creates a cart, checkout opens in the shopper's local currency
For example, a UK shopper might see "£484" where a US shopper sees "$699.95" for the same product.
How to turn on local pricing for your store
Local pricing for Shopify Markets is available on the same plans as Fin for Ecommerce. To finish setup, re-approve the Intercom app in your Shopify admin once. This grants Fin a new read-only permission to read your store's markets. Until you re-approve the app, Fin continues to quote your store's default (home) price.
Important: Make sure the Shopify markets permission is approved — without it, Fin keeps quoting home prices. Once approved, the next catalog sync reads your store's markets and adds each market's price to every product. Prices then refresh with the daily sync, and changes to your markets (like adding a country or changing a market's currency) trigger a new sync automatically.
What are the limitations of Shopify Markets pricing?
Shopify Markets pricing has a few known limitations:
Available for Shopify stores only — other ecommerce platforms aren't supported
Fin determines the shopper's market from their IP address, not the store's country picker — a shopper who switches country on the store, or uses a VPN, can see Fin quote a different market from the page they're viewing
Prices can be up to a day old, since exchange-rate changes and price list edits only reach Fin at the next daily sync
B2B catalogs aren't supported — logged-in B2B buyers see the standard price for their country
Prices for marketplace channels (like Amazon, eBay, or Walmart through Shopify Marketplace Connect) aren't read, and automatic discounts only show once the shopper reaches the cart
If a shopper isn't in any market, or their location can't be determined, Fin shows the store's default price with a clear currency label — for example, "US$949.95." This matches what Shopify itself shows

Does Fin for Ecommerce work across multiple Shopify stores linked to a single workspace?
Yes. You can connect several Shopify stores to one workspace. Products from every store are available to Fin for every shopper.
To keep each store’s products to the shoppers browsing that store, build an audience on the shopify_domain attribute, which Intercom sets on every shopper who opens the Messenger on one of your storefronts, and apply it to that store’s catalogue. See Set up Fin for Ecommerce on a Shopify store.
How is Fin for Ecommerce charged?
How is Fin for Ecommerce charged?
Fin for Ecommerce uses the same pricing model as Fin for Service. It’s priced at $0.99 per resolution (USD).
A resolution is counted when:
Fin answers a customer’s question using your content or Shopify data
The customer does not provide negative feedback
The conversation does not require further follow-up
This applies to both support queries and shopping interactions.
Examples of ecommerce resolutions:
Support query: A customer asks about your returns policy. Fin answers using your knowledge base, and the customer is satisfied. → 1 resolution
Product recommendation: A customer asks for products under $100. Fin recommends relevant items from your Shopify catalog. → 1 resolution
Shopping journey: A customer asks for gift ideas. Fin recommends products, the customer clicks product cards, adds items to their cart, and proceeds to checkout. → Still 1 resolution
Note: Actions like clicking products, adding to cart, or going to checkout happen after the resolution and do not incur additional charges.
You can view a breakdown of resolutions across Service and Ecommerce in Settings > Subscription > Usage under Fin outcomes.
