Switch to the new Help Center design

Learn how to switch your public Help Center to the new, modern, docs-style experience with better navigation and faster browsing. Opt-in and fully reversible.

Written by Beth-Ann Sher

The new Help Center design is an opt-in redesign of your public-facing Help Center. It gives your customers a modern, docs-style experience with better navigation, faster page loading, and a cleaner reading layout, while using the content and branding you already have.

The new design updates the look and feel of your public Help Center without requiring any migration or content rebuild. Your existing articles, collections, logo, colors, and fonts all carry over automatically.

Note:

  • The new design is generally available. It's off by default for existing workspaces (your classic design stays until you opt in). New workspaces will default to the new design shortly after launch. You can switch back to the classic design at any time.

  • The new design is enabled per Help Center and requires permission to access to your Help Center settings. If your workspace has multiple Help Centers, you can switch each one on independently.

What your customers will see

  • Persistent navigation sidebar: A left-hand panel showing your collections, subcollections, and articles stays visible while reading. It's collapsible, highlights the current page, and remembers its expanded or collapsed state.

  • Breadcrumbs and a cleaner reading layout: Articles display with a table-of-contents rail and a docs-style reading experience.

  • Quick search: Press Command-K (Mac) or Ctrl-K (Windows) to open quick search, or use the refreshed full-page search experience.

  • Faster navigation: Pages update instantly without full reloads, giving your Help Center an app-like feel.

  • Header links: Add up to 3 custom links to your Help Center header. Links open in a new tab.

How to enable the new Help Center design

Enabling the new design is done per Help Center. If your workspace has more than one Help Center, you switch each one independently.

  1. Select the Help Center you want to update.

  2. Open Configure & Style > Styling > Templates.

  3. Use the template selector to preview Modern.

  4. Switch it on by selecting Save and set live.

Once enabled, customers visiting that Help Center will see the new design immediately. Your branding (logo, colors, fonts, and icons) carries over automatically.

How to switch back

To return to the classic design, go back to Settings > Help Center > Configure & Style > Styling, open the Template selector, and select the Classic design. The change takes effect immediately.

What the new design covers

The new design applies to your public Help Center surfaces: the home/landing page, collection pages, article pages, and search.

Theming and branding

Your existing branding (logo, colors (including header colors), fonts, and icons) carries over automatically. Some theming options specific to the classic layout, such as header fade, alignment settings, and custom header height, are intentionally turned off in the new design. More theming customization options are planned, informed by customer feedback.

What stays on the classic design for now

Some surfaces continue to use the classic experience and aren't affected by this setting:

  • The Messenger and embedded Help Center

  • The mobile SDK

  • Standalone content-only views

  • Academy

Current search limits

Search results are currently capped at the top ~10 results. There's no pagination, spell-correction or "did you mean" suggestions available, and quoted phrase searches have basic support only.

What's coming later

The following aren't included yet but are planned for a future release: new AI-powered search, a persistent Fin/Messenger chat panel in the Help Center, linking to multiple Help Centers from the header, and more theming customization.

Reporting and analytics

Help Center analytics work the same way as they do today so there are no new reports or metrics introduced with the new design.
