Test Fin Voice before going live

How to simulate Fin Voice calls in-browser using the Voice Testing Playground before going live — including changing voices, greetings, and testing saved configurations.

Written by Dawn

The Voice Testing tab lets you simulate calls in-browser before any real customers are involved. Use this article to run a test session, switch voices, update greetings, and preview how Fin Voice will sound to callers — all without going live.

Note: This tab is for teammates with access to Fin AI Agent and Intercom's Phone channel. You'll need a phone number connected to your workspace before you can test.

How to purchase a phone number

To get everything set up for testing, you'll first need a phone number from our Phone system, as this is what Fin Voice is built on. If you don't have a spare one, it's easy to purchase a new number by following this guide: Purchasing an Intercom Phone number.

What can you do in the Voice Testing tab?

The Voice Testing tab lets Fin Voice admins test and preview the following before going live:

  • Hear Fin answer using your own support content and check accuracy.

  • Switch voices to choose the voice that fits your brand.

  • Preview greetings & escalation rules exactly as callers would hear them.

  • Run typical scenarios using preconfigured scripts.

  • Load saved configurations from the Set Fin Live tab to test advanced setups.

Note: The Voice Testing Playground is designed for testing how Fin Voice answers questions using your knowledge base. Voice Procedures are AI-driven, step-by-step call flows you can build in Train > Procedures. If you have access to Voice Procedures, you can test them here too.

How to run a test session

  1. In Fin AI Agent > Deploy > Phone, click Test.

The Voice Testing tab with the Test button highlighted, ready to begin a simulated call session.
  2. Wait for Fin to greet you, then start speaking.

  3. If prompted, grant your browser microphone permission.

Fin Voice will greet you and respond to your questions in real time. When you're done, end the call from the browser. Review Fin's responses to check accuracy against your knowledge base content.

How to change the voice or greeting

  1. Click Settings (top right).

The Settings panel in Voice Testing, showing the Settings button in the top right corner of the tab.
  2. Select a voice from the list. Update the language you want to use — English, Spanish, Arabic, Bulgarian, Chinese, Czech, Danish, Dutch, Filipino, Finnish, French, German, Greek, Hindi, Hungarian, Indonesian, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Malay, Norwegian, Polish, Portuguese, Romanian, Russian, Swedish, Turkish, Ukrainian, and Vietnamese are supported.

  3. Edit the greeting copy (you can set different greetings for inside office vs. outside office hours). Changes take effect immediately for your test session.

Note: To use Fin Voice in a specific language (e.g., German), you must have a Help Center or knowledge base with articles written in that same language. Additionally, only one language can be assigned per phone line; the system does not support dynamic language switching on a single number.

How to test with saved configurations

If you manage multiple Fin Voice setups (for example, different phone lines or languages), you can load a saved configuration directly into the Voice Testing tab. Saved configurations are created under Set Fin Live — the tab where you configure Fin Voice for production use.

To load a saved configuration, click the dropdown arrow (▼) next to the Test button and select the configuration you want to test.

How to use the Preview Panel for quick testing

You can also test Fin Voice's responses directly from the Deploy > Phone > Set Fin live and Train > Guidance > Voice pages. Look for the preview side-panel on the right-hand side of the screen to quickly hear how Fin Voice will respond without navigating away from your configuration.
