Use this article to publish a public article, save edits as a draft, unpublish an article, or save changes to a release from the article editor in Fin Main. Fin Main is the live version of Fin that your customers talk to.
What does the article editor look like in Fin Main?
The article editor in Fin Main shows a status row at the top of every article, and the main button reads Publish to Fin Main. Publish to Fin Main replaces the button that was previously called Publish. It works the same way, and your changes go live straight away.
The status row in the article editor has 3 controls:
Publish status: shows whether the article is Published or Not published, for example Published
Fin availability: shows which agents can use the article, for example "Enabled for Service, Copilot"
Audience: shows whose conversations the article is used in, for example "Audience: US audience"
The Details panel on the right of the article editor shows the article's type, status, article ID, language, creator, last update, and version history, followed by the Help center settings.
How to publish an article in Fin Main
To publish a new article in Fin Main, turn on the Publish to help center toggle, then click Publish to Fin Main.
Open the article in Fin Main.
Select the status at the top of the article.
Turn on the Publish to help center toggle.
Click Publish to Fin Main.
After you click Publish to Fin Main, the article goes live straight away on your Help Center and is available to Fin and Copilot.
Note: If the Publish to help center toggle is off on a new article, the button reads Save to Fin Main. Clicking Save to Fin Main saves the article as a draft. The draft stays Not published, is disabled for Fin, and doesn't appear on your Help Center until you publish it.
How to save an article as a draft
To save edits to a published article without making them live, click Save as draft. Save as draft keeps your edits private, and the live article doesn't change until you publish.
To save a new article as a draft, leave the Publish to help center toggle off and click Save to Fin Main. The article is saved in Knowledge as Not published and disabled for Fin, so it isn't live on your Help Center or used by Fin until you turn on the toggle and click Publish to Fin Main.
When you have unsaved changes to an existing article, the editor shows a banner reading "You have unsaved changes to this article" with Cancel, Save as draft, and Publish to Fin Main buttons.
The editor also saves some changes automatically. Choosing or changing the Help Center and collection in the Help center section updates automatically, so you don't need to click Save to Fin Main for that change. Auto-save works on both unpublished drafts and published articles, and a Saved message with a green tick appears when your changes are saved.
How to save article changes to a release
To save article changes to a release instead of publishing them, use the arrow next to Publish to Fin Main. A release lets you group changes to your content, test them with Fin, and publish them together when you're ready. If you don't need releases, keep publishing as usual.
Open the article in Fin Main and make your changes.
Click the arrow next to Publish to Fin Main.
Under Save to release draft, select a release, or select New release draft to create one.
The same arrow menu also has a Publish to Fin Main option, which saves your changes to Fin Main and makes them available for the Help Center, Service, Sales, and Copilot.
To edit an article that is already inside a release, open the release, click the item, click Edit content, make your changes, and click Save to release. Changes inside a release editor aren't saved automatically, so unsaved edits are lost if you refresh the page.
How to unpublish a public article
To unpublish a public article, open it in Knowledge in Fin Main and turn off the Publish to help center toggle.
Open the article in Knowledge in Fin Main.
Select the Published status in the status row.
Turn off the Publish to help center toggle.
Click Save to Fin Main.
In the Unpublish article dialog, choose Unpublish now or Schedule for later, then click Unpublish.
After you unpublish an article, it's removed from the Help Center and disabled for Fin and Copilot, but it stays in Knowledge.
Note: You can't unpublish an article that is already published from inside a release. For an article that already exists in Fin Main, the Published, Fin availability, and Audience settings are locked inside a release, and a lock icon appears next to each one. Switch to Fin Main first to unpublish.
How to take an article off your Help Center without unpublishing it
Removing an article from a Help Center doesn't unpublish it. Use Remove from this Help Center in the Help center section of the Details panel to take the article off a Help Center. The article stays published and Fin can still use it.
Important: To stop Fin from using an article, unpublish it or turn off its Fin availability. Removing it from a Help Center doesn't disable it for Fin.
How to control which agents can use an article
To control which agents can use an article, click the Fin availability button in the status row. The Availability menu has a toggle for each of the Service agent, Sales agent, Ecommerce agent, and Copilot.
Fin availability is separate from publishing, so an article can be hidden from your Help Center and still used by Fin, or the other way round. Fin can only use an article to answer questions when Fin availability is enabled for the agent that is answering. If Fin isn't using an article, open its Fin availability button and check that the toggle for the matching agent is turned on.
How to change the audience for an article
To change the audience for an article, click the Audience button in the status row. A searchable list opens with Everyone and your workspace's audiences, plus a Manage audiences link at the bottom.
How to tell whether you're working in a release or in Fin Main
To tell whether you're working in a release or in Fin Main, check the release switcher at the top left of the navigation. It shows the name of your current release, or Fin Main. In Fin Main, the app and inboxes appear in grey and published changes go live straight away. In a release, the app appears on a colored background and changes save to the release, not to Fin Main.
Click the release switcher at the top left of the navigation.
Select Fin Main, which is labeled Live at the top of the list.
