Publish to Fin Main and Save to Fin Main FAQs
What's the difference between Save to Fin Main and Publish to Fin Main?
What's the difference between Save to Fin Main and Publish to Fin Main?
The difference between Save to Fin Main and Publish to Fin Main is whether your changes go live. Publish to Fin Main makes your changes live straight away. The article appears in your Help Center and is available to Fin, Copilot, and teammates in the Inbox. It replaces the old Publish button and works the same way.
Save to Fin Main saves your changes but doesn't publish them. The article stays Not published and Fin can't use it. You see this button when the Publish to help center toggle is off, for example on a new article you haven't published yet.
Fin Main (also called Main Fin) is your live version of Fin, the one your customers talk to.
What does "Changes will be saved to Fin Main but not available for Fin" mean?
What does "Changes will be saved to Fin Main but not available for Fin" mean?
The message "Changes will be saved to Fin Main but not available for Fin" appears when you click the arrow next to Save to Fin Main. It means your changes are saved, but the article isn't published, so Fin won't use it in answers yet.
To make the article live, select the status at the top of the article, turn on Publish to help center, then click Publish to Fin Main.
The other options in this menu, Save to release draft and New release draft, are only needed if you use releases. If you don't use releases, you can ignore them.
How do I publish a new article?
How do I publish a new article?
To publish a new article, turn on the Publish to help center toggle and click Publish to Fin Main:
Select the status at the top of the article.
Turn on the Publish to help center toggle.
Click Publish to Fin Main.
The article goes live straight away. If the button still reads Save to Fin Main, the Publish to help center toggle is off.
Why does my button say Save to Fin Main instead of Publish, or why is it greyed out?
Why does my button say Save to Fin Main instead of Publish, or why is it greyed out?
Your button says Save to Fin Main instead of Publish, or is greyed out, for one of these reasons. Check them in order:
The Publish to help center toggle is off. Select the status at the top of the article and turn it on. The button changes to Publish to Fin Main.
You're working inside a release. Check the release switcher at the top left. If it shows a release name, or the app has a colored background, select Fin Main to go back to your live version.
Your role can only propose changes. Teammates with Can view help center articles and propose changes in a draft release can save changes to a release draft but can't publish. Ask a workspace admin to give you Can view help center articles and publish changes directly to main (individually or in a release).
How do I unpublish an article?
How do I unpublish an article?
To unpublish an article, turn off its Publish to help center toggle in Fin Main:
Open the article in Knowledge, in Fin Main.
Select the Published status at the top of the article.
Turn off Publish to help center.
Click Save to Fin Main.
Choose Unpublish now or Schedule for later, then click Unpublish.
Unpublishing removes the article from your Help Center and turns it off for Fin and Copilot, but keeps it in Knowledge. You can't unpublish an article from inside a release, so switch to Fin Main first.
Do my articles still save automatically?
Do my articles still save automatically?
Yes, your articles still save automatically in Fin Main. Edits to drafts and published articles save automatically, and a Saved message with a green tick appears. Inside a release, changes don't save automatically. Click Save to release often, or you'll lose your edits if you refresh the page.
Releases API and MCP FAQs
Can I create Fin releases with the API?
Can I create Fin releases with the API?
You can't create Fin releases with the Intercom REST API, because releases don't have public API support yet. If your workspace has Fin Operator, you can manage releases from your own AI tool instead. Connect the tool to the Intercom MCP server, then ask Fin Operator to create a release, save changes to it, check it for conflicts, and roll it out or publish it.
To manage releases with Fin Operator from your AI tool, you need:
Fin Operator in your workspace. Fin Operator is included in the Pro add-on.
An OAuth connection to the Intercom MCP server. Bearer token connections don't get the Fin Operator tools.
Permission to use Fin Operator. Fin Operator follows your permissions, so you can only do what you could do in the release yourself.
A US or EU hosted workspace. The Intercom MCP server isn't available for AU hosted workspaces yet.
Use https://mcp.intercom.com/mcp for a US hosted workspace or https://mcp.eu.intercom.com/mcp for an EU hosted workspace. Learn how to connect to the Intercom MCP server and what Fin Operator can do with releases.
