Connect Shopify to your EU Intercom workspace

You can now seamlessly connect your Shopify store to your Intercom workspace, especially if your workspace is hosted in the EU. This means your valuable customer data stays right where it should be, within the EU, while you effortlessly manage customer orders directly from your Intercom Inbox and enable the Intercom Messenger on your Shopify store.


Setting up your Shopify integration

You have two easy ways to install the Intercom <> Shopify integration: from the Intercom App Store or the Shopify App Store.

Installing from the Intercom App store

Here’s how to connect your Shopify store directly from your Intercom workspace:

  1. From your Intercom workspace, head over to Settings > App Store.

  2. Search for "Shopify" and click Install now on the Shopify app page.

  3. Next, select Connect Shopify Store.

  4. Simply type in your store domain (it's the part before ".myshopify.com," and you can find it on your Shopify store admin settings page), then click Connect.

  5. You might be asked to log in to Shopify. Once you're there, on the Shopify permissions page, click Install.

  6. Now, on the Intercom permissions page, confirm that the correct workspace is displayed at the top of the page. If you need to switch to a different workspace, simply use the dropdown menu to select it. Once you’ve confirmed your workspace, click Authorize access.

  7. You'll be redirected back to the Intercom App Store, confirming that your store is successfully connected. Please continue to the after installation section to finish setups.

Installing from the Shopify App Store

Follow these steps to connect your Shopify store from the Shopify App Store:

  1. Log into your Shopify store admin page.

  2. Search for "Intercom" and select "Intercom: AI Customer Service" to begin installation. Alternatively, you can directly install the Intercom app from the Shopify App Store and click Install.

  3. The installation will start in a new tab. Select Continue with EU and then Ok in the confirmation pop-up.

  4. On the Shopify permission page, select Install.

  5. On the Intercom permissions page, you'll see the workspace your store is connecting to. If it's not the right one, simply use the dropdown menu to select a different Intercom workspace. Once you've confirmed your choice, click Authorize access.

  6. Installation is complete. Please continue to the after installation section to finish setups.

After installation

You're almost there! Once your Shopify store is connected, follow these steps to put everything in place:

Enable Intercom Messenger for logged-in users. The Shopify integration automatically handles the Intercom Messenger login for your Shopify customers.

  • Navigate to Settings > Channels > Messenger > Install.

  • Under the Install for web tab, make sure "Enable connection to messenger" is toggled on for "For users with logins".

Show or hide your Messenger for both users and visitors.

  • Under Settings > Channels > Messenger > Install > Install for web tab, scroll down to "Give the messenger your own look and feel."

  • Toggle on Show or hide your messenger.

Follow steps on the Install the Shopify App article through Customize theme, App embeds.

(Optional) Want to display the "Shopify Order status" widget in your Intercom Messenger? Here’s how:

  • Go to Intercom settings > Channels > Messenger > Web tab.

  • Find Content > Customize Home with apps, select Add an app, and then choose Shopify.

Note: Be sure to select Shopify Widget for both Visitors and Users to your Intercom Messenger home space.

Enable the Inbox sidebar app to start managing customer orders directly within Intercom. From any conversation in your Intercom Inbox, click on Edit apps at the bottom of the sidebar. Ensure the Shopify app is enabled and visible in your Inbox sidebar.


Known Limitations

  • Currently, there's no support for AU workspaces.
